Former Director, Mathematics Section of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics at Trieste
Prof. Narasimhan is amongst India's most distinguished mathematicians. His work has led to deep connections between algebraic and differential geometry and hence between Mathematics and Physics. For these contributions he was awarded the 2006 King Faisal International Prize in Science (jointly with Simon Donaldson).
Professor Narasimhan will lecture as well as informally interact with students and faculty alike. His talks will deal with his personal experiences with mathematicians and even with the late Homi Bhabha and also with the mathematical frontiers that he has pushed back. As former Director of the Mathematics Section of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics at Trieste, he has been deeply involved with the promotion of Mathematics in India and other developing countries.
