NEW DELHI: It may continue to be a subject that has most students
scurry for cover, but having made the study of Mathematics
`interesting', Delhi University's St.Stephen's College has
now announced admission to two of its popular part time courses
in the subject.
|
The College's Mathematical Sciences Foundation (MSF) is now
inviting applications from graduates and postgraduates for its
certificate course in Mathematical Finance and Mathematical
Engineering programmes.
|
Jointly certified by the ICICI Bank and St. Stephen's College,
the short term course in Mathematical Finance -- in its sixth
year -- will cover basic investment theory and portfolio analysis,
asset pricing, elements of corporate finance, binomial options
and derivatives, elements of probability theory, statistical
interference and econometrics. |
Based on a "hands on'' approach that uses Eviews and
Excel to help students understand the subject, students have
the added advantage of winning an internship in leading corporate
houses and financial institutions in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai,
Mumbai and Kolkata if their performance is found to be good.
|
The course in Mathematical Engineering, on the other hand,
is jointly certified by the college and Tata Interactive Systems
and blends Mathematical skills with IT to provide project based
learning of Macromedia Flash, C++, Matlab for Image Compression
and Search Engine. |
Open to students from all streams, the basic background needed
for the course is Class XII Mathematics. Starting this August,
both the six-month programmes will be held thrice a week concurrently
at St. Stephen's College and at The British School at Chanakyapuri.
|
| Admission to the course will be based on interview and the
last date for sending applications is July 31. |
