A contest for students |
NEW DELHI: The Mathematical Sciences Foundation -- a joint
venture of Delhi's St. Stephen's College and ICICI Bank -- and
NIIT have come together in a new initiative to encourage school
children to use computers for mathematical problem-solving.
Called "The Mathematical Challenge", the contest will
be open to students of Classes IX to XII from all schools in
Delhi and the National Capital Region.
|
The contest will be in two categories. While students of Classes
IX and X can take part in the Level A competition, the Level
B contest is open to students of Classes XI and XII. The last
date for entering the competition is May 15, while the deadline
for submission of solutions is July 5.

"The best thinking minds" would win a trip to the
Indian Space Research Organisation and the Indian Institute
of Science, Bangalore. Other prizes include telescopes, software
CDs and books on Mathematics and Information Technology.
|
Announcing the initiative, Prof. Dinesh Singh, Director of
the Mathematical Sciences Foundation, said: "In today's
world, we need to encourage children to reflect and work together
to learn to be creative and work in teams. " |
